22nd of May CLASSIC VOICES OF BAGHDAD

The profit of "Classic Voices of Baghdad" concert will go to support the Iraqi Chil! dren who have been suffering for the last few years as they are caught in every cross fire
20 April 2010

Dear Friends

Following the success we had last year with the Saleh Alkuwaity Event at SOAS that was tremendously enjoyed, we have set our minds into a higher level to present a concert on Iraqi music.  We have successfully managed to bring in two groups of musicians that can celebrate the classical music of Iraq and prepared an exciting programme Classical Voices of Baghdad. The two performing groups are:

The Baghdad Ensemble led by Ahmed Mukhtar, the leading Oud master and is composed of British and Iraqi musicians playing their own instruments but to Iraqi Maqam music.  The combination of musicians from the West and East provides for a beautiful novel sound.

The Iraqi Maqam Group is the internationally renowned group from Holland that supports the great Maqam singer Farida.  They will be led by Mohammed Gomar on the Djoza with his team of specialist musicians in the art of Maqam singing in the style of Chalghi Al Baghdadi.

Attached is a flyer of the event. QEH 2
