From Baghdad to Cordoba In the footsteps of Ziryab

Mukhtar research in the Iraqi Maqam lead to the rediscovery of traditional melodies. In Iraqi music and oud, it explores this new Maqam, mixing classical times and improvisations. Mukhtar working together to preserve and renew this heritage secular music, referring to many of his pieces a part of the Iraqi culture. In Iraq, unlike the rest of the Arab world, the term Maqam referred not only a way but also a specific musical genre built in three parts alternate voices and instruments. The art of reaching Maqam its peak during the Abbasid dynasty (750-1258) in Baghdad, time crossroads for crops Arabic, Turkish and Persian. Ahmed Mukhtar is the first Interpret this kind of music as a solo artist.
